Hello October

The beginning of the fall season is probably my absolute favorite of all. Spring and summer bring a brightness and lively feeling around with everything from the sunny temperatures, colorful fashion trends, backyard barbecues and an easy going attitude. But the fall beats all that for me every year. There are so many things I love most about this time of the year, but I have narrowed down the list to the most important ones.

1 - Pumpkin everything. Coffee, pies, candles, clothing, bread. I LOVE pumpkin!

2 - Cooler temps. It's still hot here in South Florida but eventually the weather will get a bit cooler and bring a chill to the air. It's such a nice change from the humidity.

3 - House decor. From this point on, my house will be decked out in season/holiday appropriate decorations, some store bought & others of the DIY variety. Let the unpacking of the jumbo storage bins begin!

4 - Fashions trends. Leather, oxblood, corduroy, brocade, blazers & booties. I love going through my closet & pulling out the seasonal 'fall' items. I am all over it!

5 - Fall traditions. Baking, pumpkin carving, fall TV lineups (ha!) & even Steeler football. That one is really for the Hubs but it's become a 'tradition' for this house.

6 - The holidays will be here before you know it!

There are probably a million other things that I could add to this list, but I want to hear what would make your list. What do you love most about the fall season?

Harvest Decor

I don't have much when it comes to fall/harvest decor for the Thanksgiving season (one storage bin for Thanksgiving decor vs. six storage bins for Christmas decor...um yeah) but I did want to share the two main components that I actually MADE myself! Last year at this time, I was solo for a week while the Hubs was in Nicaragua on a community service missions trip with our church. With the downtime, I came up with some craft projects as I noticed my fall decor was lacking. I did these both in a matter of two evenings and while I wouldn't consider myself the best DIY'er, I was impressed with what I came up with!

My living room tablescape!

(with the candles lit)

These white pumpkins were marked down on clearance after Halloween, so I grabbed them at $1 a piece. I found rust colored gems and stuck them onto the pumpkins in several lengths and then added the same gems into votive candle holders. I had the leaf tea light holders and then added some acrylic leaves all around.

My front door wreath!

This was another result of an after Halloween clearance sale. I purchased a plain green wreath (the same found on typical Christmas wreaths) and an assortment of fall floral and berry stems. Most of these floral stems were about $1 or so and all complimented each other in similar colors of purples, oranges and reds. I simply removed the stems from the flowers and berries and then used a hot glue gun to attach them to the wreath. I laid out the largest flowers first and then filled in the gaps with the smaller flowers followed by the berry stems. I just love it! Again not professional quality, but pretty nonetheless!

Do you have any fall decor that you made yourself? I would love to see it!

Fall Crushes

Fall is my absolute favorite season! I just love some of the things that come with it....the dip in the temperatures (even if only slightly), pumpkins, fire pits, changing the seasonal decor in my home and the hint of the holidays just around the corner. But most importantly (to me) is the arrival of fall fashions and swapping out my summer wardrobe for all things warm and cozy. Here are the current fall items I am crushing on...

flare pants in crimson red (they are actually on their way to me!)

glitter platforms

patterned blouse

draped bow necklace

black lace dress

dark teal polish

peep toe bootie with laces

double breasted coat

What items are you crushing on for fall?
